Each den has a set of badges and other awards for the scouts to work toward. These awards provide the overall structure for the year.
Some activities, especially those conducted by the pack, are just for fun. Most activities, though, especially those conducted by the dens, will be organized around earning the awards. The awards system helps the den stay focused on the full range of experiences that Cub Scouts offers.
The awards are fantastic for teaching the scouts how to plan and focus on goals, and they give them a great sense of pride, accomplishment, and purpose as they work their way through each year. They are an essential part of the full scouting experience. Leaders and parents should encourage their scouts as they progress through each rank. We encourage you to applaud, whistle, and cheer for all of the Scouts as they are presented with their awards at den meetings and pack meetings.
